Finding Your Way around the Website
You may now see all pubs near a location on our beta custom map generator.
We are all very excited by this new map and we would like to send a loud cheer and round of applause to supporter Pete for not only suggesting it, but actually doing the work. This was a really generous and helpful contribution to Doggiepubs… thank-you Pete.
Basically there are three criteria that supporters give the thumbs up to:
- where good wines and beer are well kept
- where you can eat well
- where your well-behaved dog is welcome to be with you while
you eat.
Note: we are currently working on a 4th category for pubs that are truly dog friendly but are not foody. This is in response to numerous requests from loyal supporters.
|
 |
Some pubs welcome children but exclude dogs - this is not our
favourite rule, we prefer more traditional country inns. Some
pubs only allow dogs at outside tables - OK - but some of those
won’t serve food outside [truly!] - not OK. Tell us about
pubs which do well in the above three categories and we will list
them on this non-commercial site.
The commonest excuses about not allowing dogs are "it’s
the regulations", or "Brussels", or "they wurrrah-wurrrah the
bar stools". We know this is all it is - an excuse, as it is not actually illegal at all (except in the food preparation area).
If you like the idea of Doggie Pubs, become a supporter. All you need to do is feel keen
enough to spread the word, and let us know you would like to be
included on our listing of supporters, see alongside. You may
disclose your rank as supporter whenever you think it is likely
to get you a free pint.
Doggie Pubs Calling Cards
Send Millie an SAE (Hindleap Corner, Priory Road, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5JF) and she will send you twenty cards.

Note to pub landlords
Here is a quote from Adam Edwards who has been searching for the best
traditional country pubs. He had some rough-and-ready rules:
"The pub must serve decent beer [and] be part of the local community.
The food must be simple and good, but should not eclipse the important
business of drinking. It should not be so popular that the locals have
been squeezed out, nor so exclusive that it did not welcome the colonel
and the cleaning lady. Ideally, there should be no piped music, no
microwaves and no electronic games. Dogs, gumboots and smoking must be
allowed. Children could be seen, but should not be heard......."
