Excellent food and also good value... and the portions enormous. The new owner, Nina, took over in summer 2010 and her husband does the Sunday roasts. Very dog friendly. This is Millie's other local and much appreciated. Located in the centre of the Ashdown Forest the Hatch has been a public house since circa 1430AD. Freehouse, serving traditional beers from a number of breweries, and excellent food if pricy (and sometimes smallish portions,) in cosy restaurant. Really popular so if you are planning to eat there after your walk on the forest get there early especially in winter.

Situated in village on A22 (bit of a busy road) but lots of terrific walks nearby on Ashdown Forest. As the only pub on the South Downs, this is quite a find and it allows dogs everywhere but in the restaurant. Lucky doggy visitors might get a biscuit too. There's freshly made organic food and a real country feel in the Plough and Harrow. All produce is sourced locally; fish from Newhaven, meat from butchers in Eastbourne, vegetables from Charleston Manor and free range eggs. You'll want to come here for the food alone!!
