Two pub dogs and both are very friendly. You don't always get to see them though. Dogs are allowed in the majority of the pub except for the restaurant. The garden is fairly large and upon arrival expect the dog to be served first. Food is excellent as are the cask ales. The staff are very friendly and are always keen to help. The surrounding area is owned by the National Trust and is great for dog walking. This pub has two framed photographs of pub dogs. One being the present dog with his missus and the other one is of the previous dog who is sadly no longer with them. This pub is definitely dog friendly.

The Skimmington Castle started life as a farm 400 years ago. It became a pub in 1825 but in recent years has been more akin to a restaurant than pub, especially at weekends, meaning that drinkers may find all the tables taken by diners. This pub is a fantastic place for a beer, a meal, and time with the dog. It is a Fuller's pub but has rotating beers (usually including Seafarer's or Butcombe). The food is excellent. They also serve a lovely Smoked Haddock Fishcake, some great soups, and a great Sunday Roast. Dogs are allowed in both the dining area and the garden. The pub is a cosy, well-decorated, friendly gastro-pub that has excellent food and drink but doesn't take itself too seriously.
