PetsDirect Award Winner October 2010DOGGIE PUBS

Find out where you and your best friend are welcome.

By their recommendations, like-minded people help to make DoggiePubs a useful, non-commercial guide to happy eating out with your dog.

Pubs get included by recommendation - they can't pay to be listed. Eager publicans earn their listings by being dog-friendly, that's all. Our reward is knowing how much this site is liked, and discovering more places where Millie will be welcome.

Fantastic ancient pub right beside Tintern Abbey, ideal for walking Offas Dyke and the beautiful river Wye. The proprietors are dog owners themselves and have recently fitted underfloor heating beneath the flagstone floors which the dogs love. Muddy dogs and walking boots are no problem. The food is absolutely superb. There are huge landscaped gardens overlooking the Abbey with dog bowls all over the place. The Bearded Collie club were there on a recent visit.

TRELLECH Lion Inn
star ratingstar ratingstar rating
A venerable old coaching inn, one time brewery and pig farm, the Lion Inn is something of a celebrity. Current holder of the Best UK Freehouse Pub, Open Fire Pub of the Year and Best Food Pub in Wales. But there's no hint of glitzy award ceremonies here. The emphasis is on the traditional; traditional decor, real ales, open fires, wood beams, home cooked food, crib and shove ha'penny. The truly enormous menu ranges from traditional pub grub, through to the exotic and unheard of; with an extensive list of authentic Hungarian dishes, as well as a number of Thai curries. Dogs are allowed in the main bar area and can look forward to a bowl of fresh water and biscuits. Very popular with the local Dalmatian Society apparently! Two pub dogs will tip you off about the many good walks. On road between Chepstow and Monmouth.

A friendly real ale pub which has just reopened, under new management, after being closed for several months. Unfortunatly, no food is available, apart from the usual crisps and nuts, as the kitchen is undergoing refurbishment at present. There are good walks in the area (see blaenbran.org.uk) with excellent views of the surrounding area and the Bristol Channel.
