Fantastic ancient pub right beside Tintern Abbey, ideal for walking Offas Dyke and the beautiful river Wye. The proprietors are dog owners themselves and have recently fitted underfloor heating beneath the flagstone floors which the dogs love. Muddy dogs and walking boots are no problem. The food is absolutely superb. There are huge landscaped gardens overlooking the Abbey with dog bowls all over the place. The Bearded Collie club were there on a recent visit.

A venerable old coaching inn, one time brewery and pig farm, the Lion Inn is something of a celebrity. Current holder of the Best UK Freehouse Pub, Open Fire Pub of the Year and Best Food Pub in Wales. But there's no hint of glitzy award ceremonies here.
