CHEPSTOW The Anchor Inn

Fantastic ancient pub right beside Tintern Abbey, ideal for walking Offas Dyke and the beautiful river Wye. The proprietors are dog owners themselves and have recently fitted underfloor heating beneath the flagstone floors which the dogs love. Muddy dogs and walking boots are no problem. The food is absolutely superb. There are huge landscaped gardens overlooking the Abbey with dog bowls all over the place. The Bearded Collie club were there on a recent visit.

Lovely village pub in beautiful village location. In winter months you can sit in the bar with your dog and warm up by the open fire (dogs not allowed in the restaurant). Wonderful choice of food from a bar menu to something more special. In the summer, there is pub garden with a view over the fields, a patio and lawned area with picnic benches. TRELLECH Lion Inn

A venerable old coaching inn, one time brewery and pig farm, the Lion Inn is something of a celebrity. Current holder of the Best UK Freehouse Pub, Open Fire Pub of the Year and Best Food Pub in Wales. But there's no hint of glitzy award ceremonies here. The emphasis is on the traditional; traditional decor, real ales, open fires, wood beams, home cooked food, crib and shove ha'penny. The truly enormous menu ranges from traditional pub grub, through to the exotic and unheard of; with an extensive list of authentic Hungarian dishes, as well as a number of Thai curries. Dogs are allowed in the main bar area and can look forward to a bowl of fresh water and biscuits. Very popular with the local Dalmatian Society apparently!
Two pub dogs will tip you off about the many good walks.
