Cracking pub - a real village local but with more than average amounts of pzazz (of a very nice and not at all showy sort). Wide range of well-kept real ales from local breweries, food not 'gastro' but certainly very superior. No wonder the local paper has named it its Pub of the Year on at least a couple of occasions - and extremely dog-friendly. Extra note: owner's self-catering cottage in village - there's a link on the pub website.

The Crown at Hartest is near where we live and we regularly go there for dinner. It is a welcoming attractive pub which seems to be very much geared up for meals, as there are two main dining areas - one dog free and the other on the other side of the pub dog friendly. The dog friendly area is large with a number of dining tables, and on our visits, mostly empty with just one other table being used by people with a dog - which makes dining a relaxed experience as we don't have to worry about people nearby who do not like dogs. The staff on the other hand seem to like dogs and often stop to chat about our dog when serving our meal. There is one restaurant menu for the whole pub and the food is above average i.e. you are not confined to a burger and chips style bar menu. The food quality is good and on most visits the staff leave cards requesting feedback on TripAdvisor. I mentioned I would leave feedback on doggiepubs which they welcomed.

Bar area is dog friendly, and there are a couple of tables to sit and eat at, although most of the eating area is not accessible if you have a dog. Nice atmosphere and attentive staff. Beer festivals and other special events taking place throughout the year. Outside there is a large patio area with tables. Lots of local walks although it is in the town. Weekends open all day for food, always a bonus!

They even have dog beer for you to purchase in two flavours; chicken and beef. They do not have a kitchen yet but have a different street food service every Saturday night. They also have local Norfolk pork Pies & sausage rolls & scotch eggs along with crisps and nuts. They open at the moment Thursday, Friday evenings, Saturday from midday till 10pm and Sunday midday till 5pm.

  • StarsThis icon is for.....

Stars are awarded by YOU.

Please help us get the stars right, they indicate overall dog-friendliness. So a simple pub may deserve 5 Stars, whereas a very smart gastropub may only receive 1, (or visa versa).

Stars represent Your Views, SO...

If you think that one of the listed pubs needs more or less Stars PLEASE just HOVER OVER Rate Pub link AND CLICK THE STARS. Your new rating will get sent to us.

Why have some pubs got no stars?

Because no one has told us yet how many it deserves! Please bear with us while we update the pubs, this may take a little while as there are OVER 7000!

As you can see we do need your help with the new dog-friendly ratings. This is an excellent excuse to visit all the pubs that are local to you and do some serious research. Ideally every pub should be ‘starred and iconned’. Woof, woof!
