Oldest pub in Northwich, a tradtional English chop house serving home cooked food. dating back to 1650, has just been taken over by the company that operates the Red Lion further up the river in Winsford and the King's Lock in Middlewich. Major refurbishment planned in early 2016 will allow a full food offering, in the meantime they are just doing posh sandwiches using local produce. Five hand pumps with at least two well-kept local ales and a craft cider. Cocktails are a speciality. They don't even stock things like J2O because they would rather mix you the equivalent from fresh juice.
Dogs welcome in the main bar, and there is a big garden down to the tarmac path along the river Weaver. Water and biscuits are provided.

I love this pub since new owners Paul and Paula have taken over.
It's now perfect for the whole family including the dog. Simple but fresh food, great drinks and there's dog treats on the bar.
Libby the Labradoodle makes the occasional appearance as do a couple of cats.

Super friendly and warm welcome from staff and locals. I was even invited to a birthday party at the pub.

Excellent Sunday roasts are my favourites from here; all home cooked with Yorkshire puddings just as they should be. Never been let down with food and the welcome for us and our 2 dogs. Always a jar of tasty treats for the pooches waiting on the bar. Roaring open log fire during the colder weather to sit in front of with a glass of your favourite tipple. Very welcoming indeed and well worth a visit as the pub dates from the 16th century when it started as a coaching inn. Who knows, you may even find company with the ghost.

Outstanding food, very dog friendly. This old pub has all it's original character with lots of eating rooms. Resident dogs Tiquila and Oscar are often around. Very welcoming to well-behaved dogs in the bar area. Food is superb and you can eat in the extremely comfortable bar and separate carpeted areas with your dogs.
