LEOMINSTER Stockton Cross Inn

Address: Kimbolton, Leominster, HR6 0HD
Tel: 01568 612509

This wonderful 16th century pub is well worth the half mile detour off the busy A49 between Leominster and Ludlow. Set on a corner, it is a half timbered building with plenty of atmosphere inside. When we arrived for lunch there seemed to be more dogs than people. Our springer spaniel made a lot of friends. Good variety of well-kept local beers including Wye Valley and, as this is Herefordshire, fine ciders including Robinson's, made just down the road. Food is freshly cooked and a cut above normal pub fare. They take pride in locally sourcing their supplies. Very friendly welcome and a lovely beer garden if the weather is good. A gem.

Our dog was allowed in all parts of the pub and sat with us while we ate. The pub has its own dog which is very friendly and wanders around the pub freely. Water is readily available to dogs in the pub and outside and we and our dog were made to feel very welcome. Add to that the fact that the food was extremely good and well priced and that it is a small pub with lots of real pub charm and we really felt we were on to a winner. We would definitely recommend it.

Unprepossessing roadside pub next to the Wye Valley Brewery whose beers feature in the bar. Couple of decent ciders on tap as well. Decor might look in need of an update but the welcome is friendly and Simon, the host, serves lovely food all cooked from fresh. Dogs allowed in the bar only but plenty of room. Pub cat will treat all visiting pooches with the usual feline disdain.

Freshly cooked and good quality bar food served every day along with four real ales that change regularly. We've enjoyed pizza, fish and chips and burgers. The steak comes highly recommended.

Our day to Ludlow was marred by torrential rain so we headed to the Church Inn, located just behind the Buttercross in the centre of Ludlow, for morning coffee. They are very dog friendly with dogs allowed everywhere although most seemed to steer towards the non-carpeted areas. Lots of space around tables gave an airy feel and a huge dog had no problem stretching out alongside us. Staff were very friendly and the pub is welcoming to families too. The pub is modern and well decorated with a few quirky touches. Coffee was excellent and after a brief soaking outside we returned for lunch. The menu is modern pub grub and the food was excellent. We had room for desserts and these were also very good. A good selection of beers and I noticed that they do a sampling platter of a third of pint of six different beers to try. Maybe another time as I was driving.

MONKWOOD GREEN The Fox Inn

Address: Monkwood Green, Hallow, Worcester, WR2 6NX

Great pub in tiny hamlet surrounding a huge green on which graze a flock of Hebridean sheep! Views of Malvern Hills walks in Monkwood, a wonderful nature reserve. Superb local ale and cider, fresh food and a very warm welcome. This really is a proper pub. Cannon Royall brewery is only a few miles up the road, monthly informal folk sessions (last Friday of month). Inglenook fireplace popular with walkers and cyclists plus locals.

The scenery surrounding Malvern is absolutely breath taking and The Nags Head is equally impressive. This is a really Proper Pub. And for dog lovers this is THE place. And just so you know, of course water is always provided and dog biscuits... are kept in a medieval knights helmet.

Very well presented pub with fabulous food and drink - quite smart, so they might not appreciate a pack of lively muddy springers, but a quiet well behaved dog or two is fine. There's great walking over the road in the Wyre Forest too!

This is the best doggy pub for miles around according to DP Supporter and dog trainer who was made very welcome. Rather a limited range of food. Just Fish and Chips, and a once a month Steak Night. Still cant complain as very dog friendly - and that's what counts with us.

Stars

  • StarsThis icon is for.....

Stars are awarded by YOU.

Please help us get the stars right, they indicate overall dog-friendliness. So a simple pub may deserve 5 Stars, whereas a very smart gastropub may only receive 1, (or visa versa).

Stars represent Your Views, SO...

If you think that one of the listed pubs needs more or less Stars PLEASE just HOVER OVER Rate Pub link AND CLICK THE STARS. Your new rating will get sent to us.

Why have some pubs got no stars?

Because no one has told us yet how many it deserves! Please bear with us while we update the pubs, this may take a little while as there are OVER 7000!

As you can see we do need your help with the new dog-friendly ratings. This is an excellent excuse to visit all the pubs that are local to you and do some serious research. Ideally every pub should be ‘starred and iconned’. Woof, woof!
