Dogs definitely add to the atmosphere of the pub. Biscuits are left in a sealed glass jar should they feel hungry and if they are thirsty they can drink from the marble water bowl that in it's previous life was a church font. If they feel cold and tired after an excellent walk in the South Downs countryside adjoining the pub they can relax by two open fires.
We visited yesterday for lunch with friends. Our 2 well behaved dogs were welcomed by friendly staff, dog biscuits in a jar at the bar etc - but we were not allowed to sit in the 'restaurant area' but were able to have a table in the bar area (or outside). Having booked online, could have been caught out if there had not been a free table in the bar area. Food was lovely and sourced locally wherever possible. Great walks nearby.

Fantastic, friendly pub/restaurant. Bowls of water and doggy treats available at all times. Amazing food and a selection fine ales too. Recommend the shared starter, Baked Camembert, red onion chutney and breads.
Dogs are not allowed in the restaurant, but a table can be booked in the bar and is reserved for two and a half hours, giving you plenty of time for a three course meal. There is a loyalty scheme for returning customers.
