This lovely pub sits right next to Hickling Broad, there are moorings (with wifi available) for those on a boating visit and good parking for those arriving by road. The landlord recently (April 2010) bought the pub from the brewery and it is now a freehouse for the first time, with the local favourites Woodfordes and Adnams on regularly and a good mix of guest ales. Well behaved, people friendly, dogs are very welcome in the bar, where food from their developing menu is available. Give this new freehouse your support, if you are in the area... it's well worth the visit at any time of year, the broad always looks lovely and the welcome at the pub is always warm.

Just been for Sunday lunch treat at the Dukes Head in Somerleyton. Yum! Dogs and well behaved humans welcomed. Stone floor and large, old wooden tables and chairs. Nice atmosphere, good service, could see through to kitchen if the smells get too much! Original entry says basic bar food but there's a good selection on the menu as well as a specials board. We had roasts, lamb and beef from the Somerleyton estate, and a delicious fish and chips. More adventurous options are available such as Jerusalem artichoke risotto with chestnuts and sauted mushrooms, fish stew - salmon, red mullet, mussels and tiger prawns, black pudding croquettes with honey and mustard ketchup. To be recommended (by human) is the dark chocolate brownie with pistachios, raspberries and cherry icecream. I recommend all of the main courses, had samples of each! Would have been good to see some local Adnams and bowls of woof water but overall a good outing.

An independent free house serving well kept, traditional local ales, an eclectic wine list and freshly ground coffee. The bar and a la carte menus use seasonal, locally sourced ingredients ensuring only the best from the region is served. In the winter there is a roaring log fire and in a summer a lovely courtyard garden. The friendly front of house team welcome dogs with water, biscuits and a fuss! Well worth a visit.

Stars

  • StarsThis icon is for.....

Stars are awarded by YOU.

Please help us get the stars right, they indicate overall dog-friendliness. So a simple pub may deserve 5 Stars, whereas a very smart gastropub may only receive 1, (or visa versa).

Stars represent Your Views, SO...

If you think that one of the listed pubs needs more or less Stars PLEASE just HOVER OVER Rate Pub link AND CLICK THE STARS. Your new rating will get sent to us.

Why have some pubs got no stars?

Because no one has told us yet how many it deserves! Please bear with us while we update the pubs, this may take a little while as there are OVER 7000!

As you can see we do need your help with the new dog-friendly ratings. This is an excellent excuse to visit all the pubs that are local to you and do some serious research. Ideally every pub should be ‘starred and iconned’. Woof, woof!
