The Lough Pool reopened in mid February, and looks very promising. A sign by the door proclaims “Dogs welcome, children must be kept on a leash.” Certainly on our two visits, the manageress made a great fuss of Rufus and provided him a bowl of water. He also met a very friendly terrier. We did not sample the food, but the menu looks good, as did the plates on neighbouring tables. The pub continues to be attractive and traditional, inside and out, with open fires in winter and a nice garden in summer; the neighbouring rape field adds a lovely colour and fragrance at the moment. It used to be a popular destination for muddy country walks, and I see no reason why this should not resume.

Cosy and friendly pub right on the Welsh border with lovely large riverside garden. Excellent home cooked food. The pub itself is quite small so it is advisable to book ahead if you want to bring your dog along as they only allow a limited number in the bar. If you are happy to eat outside there is no problem. They have a friendly sheepdog in residence and our own dog was welcomed with a dog treat.

Great food which is very affordable and great friendly atmosphere means you always feel welcome and it's very dog friendly. My dog Sam feels like it's a second home and he won't walk past the door without trying to pull me in. Probably due to all the lovely treats and warm welcome he gets. Sunday is his favourite day as he is usually guaranteed off-cuts from the amazing roasts they do. I and our Sam couldn't recommend the King Charles II more highly. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff who welcome my boy and every other dog as much as paying customers.

This hotel is full of character. It was an old hunting lodge and still holds the Forest of Dean Verders court in their restaurant occasionally. Very dog friendly, with a small cosy bar and a light and modern orangery where they serve excellent food. Very generous portions and good value. Dogs are welcome in the bar and restaurant but not the Verderers court restaurant. Lovely beer garden and a secure fenced and gated field at the bottom of the car park where dogs can have a good run (dog waste bin by the gate to the field). I often see several dogs in the organgery and my dog has always been greeted by staff and offered a bowl of water. The hotel also has dog friendly rooms in the courtyard, but these are long overdue for updating, unlike the lovely rooms within the hotel.

This is a fairly basic pub with a limited choice of food and drink, at least in the bar where DP Supporter stayed with thier dog. They were made to feel extremely welcome, probably more so as the landlord has a similar black labrador - hence the pub name. This is a Pubmaster pub.

Dogs are made more than welcome in any of the bar eating areas (three). Open fires and wood beams and great cask ales - perfect. Good Beer Guide 2009. B&B rooms all ensuite - dog friendly too - will be available from August 2009. Great beer garden and adjacent to public footpaths for walkies!

A traditional 'local' pub with chatty regulars, TV sports and a games room. Does doggy B&B in two pleasant and quiet en-suite rooms in the older part of the building. Excellent breakfasts (to your choice) but no evening food. Close to the start/end of the Blue Rock Trail which runs from Ruspidge to Soudley and makes a good morning/evening walk. Outside spray hose for rinsing down. (There is a pub cat so maybe avoid if your dog is very anti-cat)

Provided two bowls of water for the three dogs travelling with us, without us having to ask. Dogs allowed in the bar area where we ate. Fantastic Sunday lunch at a reasonable price. Will go back again if in the area.

Stars

  • StarsThis icon is for.....

Stars are awarded by YOU.

Please help us get the stars right, they indicate overall dog-friendliness. So a simple pub may deserve 5 Stars, whereas a very smart gastropub may only receive 1, (or visa versa).

Stars represent Your Views, SO...

If you think that one of the listed pubs needs more or less Stars PLEASE just HOVER OVER Rate Pub link AND CLICK THE STARS. Your new rating will get sent to us.

Why have some pubs got no stars?

Because no one has told us yet how many it deserves! Please bear with us while we update the pubs, this may take a little while as there are OVER 7000!

As you can see we do need your help with the new dog-friendly ratings. This is an excellent excuse to visit all the pubs that are local to you and do some serious research. Ideally every pub should be ‘starred and iconned’. Woof, woof!
